A: My first, last and only GSS book
I had this book once upon a time. In fact, it was the only Golden Sound Story I ever had!
It all begins when Minnie Mouse is planning a surprise birthday party for Mickey. Then Donald Duck calls to tell her about his new invention he plans to bring to the party, "The Mighty Fizz"--that a homemade soda machine. Soon Goofy arrives afterwards, enthralled at what Minnie's done with the place.
Then the phone rings again, and guess who decides to call her at a time like now? Yep, it's Mickey, all right! And he's calling to ask about coming over to help Minnie clean house. Minnie, of course, laughs this off, telling him to come around noon for a lunch date.
Donald and Daisy then arrive with the Mighty Fizz (it's really a trashcan on wheels with tubes sticking out of the lid) and show them how to make soda: turn the crank and add powder for bubbles. Then the phone rings again, and there's Mickey, this time asking if his dog Pluto can come too. Minnie agrees, then frantically waves to everyone to keep everything about the party on the Q.T. Goofy is oblivious to this, as he goes try out the Mighty Fizz for himself. Mickey then becomes suspicious, but Minnie, ever determined to stress the importance of the "surprise" in "surprise party", passes the sounds off as a neighbor with car problems and their lunch boiling over. Naturally, Mickey believes all of this.
Now the four decide to go out and get some snacks for the party. That's when Morty and Ferdy, Mickey's nephews, call for a ride to the party. Minnie says she'll pick them up. As Donald, Daisy and Minnie head for the car, Goofy, still curious about the Mighty Fizz, decides to make more soda. Unfortunately, he sees there aren't enough bubbles to make a fizz, so he carelessly pours the entire package of powder there and rejoins the other three as they're about to leave. After ringing the bell twice, Morty and Ferdy join Donald, Daisy Goofy and Minnie and head off for the store.
Once there, Goofy sees a display of potato chips up ahead, But just as he's about to grab one, he pulls so hard, the whole display comes crashing down on him, so the choice is obvious- they'll be having chips with cake and soda. Not only that, Morty whispers that Mickey's in the store, too. Everyone quickly takes refuge behind the candy counter, while Mickey buys a peppermint stick. As soon as he's gone, all is well- until- OH NO! It's almost noon! The six make a mad dash to buy the chips and get back home before Mickey does.
Meanwhile, Mickey and Pluto, cleaning supplies in hand, arrive at Minnie's house to find bubbles spewing everywhere and a crank turning. Soon the two enter the house (though nobody's home) and discover the Mighty Fizz gone berserk. In all the confusion, Pluto goes sliding across the floor filled with soda and ends up crashing into the Mighty Fizz. It isn't long before Donald, Daisy, Minnie, Goofy, Morty and Ferdy come home and see the mess. Just then, Mickey pops out from behind the Mighty Fizz, calling "SURPRISE!"
A giggling Minnie claims it was _him_ who was to be surprised, but Mickey shrugs it off, claiming they'd been cleaning house the whole time. Soon the party goes off without any more hitches.
Naturally, the sounds in this book are golden as well:
-Mickey saying, "Gee, that's swell!"
-Mickey saying, "Ha ha, oh boy!"
-Minnie giggling
-Goofy saying, "Gawrsh!"
-Phone ring
-Doorbell ring
-Bubbles
-Chips being stepped on
-Crank turning
-"Happy Birthday" (used as a page-turn signal)
